Many Vermonters may not know about the important role Vermont plays in U.S. foreign affairs. In a recent article in the Burlington Free Press, Steve Schmida, founder and managing director of SSG Advisors, a local global solutions firm, writes about Vermont's growing contribution to foreign affairs programs and the need for a strong foreign aid budget.
The proposed budget cuts by the Trump Administration will not only impact the Vermont economy but they will devastate State Department and USAID programs in education, health, economic development and conservation. The impact of Trump’s proposed cuts will not simply be felt around the world; it will have a significant impact on the Vermont economy.
The cuts will result in the elimination of foreign affairs programs that are implemented by Vermont companies, universities and NGOs. Dozens, if not, hundreds of Vermont jobs could be lost, something that our state cannot afford.
