OPPORTUNITY: Communications Consultant — SBAIC

The Small Business Association for International Companies (SBAIC) is seeking a part-time Communications Consultant to support the organization’s advocacy, member engagement, and public presence during a pivotal moment for the international development community.

SBAIC is the leading trade association representing U.S. small business Federal government contractors working in global development. SBAIC advocates for its members before Congress and with the administration on procurement reform, advocating for small business utilization in foreign assistance programs, and championing policies that support business opportunities and growth for small businesses.

The Role

The Communications Consultant will be responsible for liaising with the SBAIC Board of Directors and Committee Chairs to develop, implement, and manage the following efforts:

• Newsletter & Social Media — Drafting and distributing member newsletters and managing SBAIC’s LinkedIn and other social platforms

• Media Relations — Supporting press outreach, drafting statements, and positioning SBAIC’s voice in trade and national media

• Member Communications & Website — Managing member-facing communications and keeping SBAIC’s web presence current and compelling

Ideal Candidate

SBAIC is looking for a communications professional with experience in public affairs, advocacy, and/or media relations — ideally with familiarity in international development, trade associations, or federal contracting. Strong writing skills and the ability to work independently are essential.  Prior experience working in or on behalf of small business contractors working for the US Government is a plus. Proficiency in communications management software (Hootsuite, Sprout Social), content creation tools (Canva, Adobe Creative Cloud), and analytics platforms (Google Analytics, platform insights), etc. are also a plus.

Estimated Level of Effort, Contract Structure, Period of Performance 

Support is estimated at approximately 15-20 hours per month. The selected applicant will be engaged via a time and materials type contract for an estimated period of performance for 6 months with an option to extend with approval from the Board and successful fundraising efforts. Payment for services to be negotiated.
